We are off to a great start this year and are working on becoming the best S.T.A.R's we can be. S.T.A.R. is an acronym we use for Students Taking Active Responsibility. We are finding ways to be responsible at home, at school, in our community and as members of the Church. We are discovering our unique gifts given to us by God and we are using those gifts to give praise to God in both words and actions. We are also seeking inspiration from the lives of Saints as we celebrate and discuss the Saint of the Day. On All Saints Day, our third grade students will share what they have learned about their Saint and how they can use those lessons in their own lives. "Love one another as I have loved you." John 15:12
We are always reading in third grade! We are learning to close read both fiction and nonfiction text to deepen our understanding and knowledge of the topic. The students will be responsible for reaching AR goals starting in October. Encourage your child to read with you each and every night and ask them questions about what they are reading.
What does it take to be a good scientist? Ask a third grade student! We have been learning about the scientific process and how to use it to complete an investigation. We are also learning about scientific tools, what they do, and how we use them to during investigations. We have completed several investigations in which we get to put our scientific skills to the test. Check back soon to see what new discoveries we have made!
We have been hard at work in math this year. The students are learning different strategies to help them solve addition and subtraction problems. We are estimating to check our answers to see if they are reasonable and are becoming experts at explaining how we solve problems. In our next chapter, we will begin using tables and charts to solve problems.
Our focus this year has been on communities. We are learning about what makes a community successful and how we can be active, respectful citizens in our community. We are comparing and contrasting different communities around the word. We are exploring the traditions and customs that the people in those communities share and how they have changed over time.
